What We Do:GreenChar is a sustainable energy firm converting sugarcane waste into clean and affordable energy for industrial use in Kenya.The Problem:Due to the use of biomass for cooking (both as firewood and charcoal), Kenya’s forests are estimated to lose 52,000 hectares each year.
Our Product
LongburnOur flagship product, LongBurn, is a biomass fuel briquette made from discarded sugarcane husks. It is lower cost, higher energy, and longer lasting than conventional charcoal and firewood.
How It Is Made.
We collect the ‘waste’ husks from one of the largest sugarcane processing factories in western Kenya. The husks are next dried in two-ton industrial dyer to reduce the moisture content below 10%. A high-pressure compaction machine is then used to produce the final LongBurn logs.
