Our main task is to represent the interest of Fairtrade certified producers in Africa and to promote their socio-economic development through trade.
Our five key areas of activity are:
*Producer representation within the Fairtrade system especially in areas of governance, policy and standards development. We work with our grassroots structures such as product networks and country partnerships to facilitate genuine producer participation in FLO. We have a representative on the FLO Board and collaborate with FLO central units to ensure Fairtrade standards and policy reflect African producer realities
*Producer capacity improvement for sustainable businesses – developing and implementing strategies for improving members’ technical, organisational and business capacities through dedicated training programmes, partnerships and knowledge and information exchange among producer members
*Market access: promoting market access for producers internationally and championing intra-African trade opportunities
*Partnerships: developing partnerships inside and outside of Africa to leverage technical, organisational, financial and businesses support for producer members to improve their capacity to trade effectively
*Promoting trade justice in Africa – collaborating with businesses, governments, civil society and other Fair Trade organisations in Africa to develop a real movement for change in the rules that govern global trade.
